Gregory Bateson (1904-1980) était un anthropologue, linguiste, épistémologue et cybernéticien britannique naturalisé américain.
Il a travaillé dans différents domaines, allant de l’anthropologie à la biologie, en passant par la psychiatrie, la théorie de l’information et la communication.
Bateson est surtout connu pour ses travaux sur les systèmes, la communication, l’écologie de l’esprit et la cybernétique.
Il a publié plusieurs ouvrages majeurs, notamment « Steps to an Ecology of Mind » (1972) et « Mind and Nature » (1979).
