L’effet Von Restorff, également connu sous le nom d’effet d’isolation, prédit que lorsqu’on présente plusieurs stimuli homogènes, le stimulus qui diffère du reste est plus susceptible d’être retenu en mémoire [1].
Cette découverte a été faite en 1933 par Hedwig von Restorff, une psychologue allemande qui a étudié et pratiqué la psychologie selon les traditions de la Gestalt [4].
L’effet Von Restorff est notre tendance naturelle à mémoriser les choses qui se démarquent du reste, pour leur couleur, leur position ou leur singularité [3].
C’est pourquoi on l’appelle également effet d’isolation. Lorsqu’un élément ressort, notre attention se focalise dessus et le processus de mémorisation commence [2][3].
