Hypnos est un personnage de la mythologie grecque et romaine. Dans la mythologie grecque, Hypnos est le dieu du sommeil, fils de la nuit (Nyx) et frère jumeau de Thanatos, le dieu de la mort paisible.
Selon les récits, il vivait dans les enfers ou sur l’île de Lemnos, et est souvent représenté comme un jeune homme ailé portant un pavot.
Les Grecs considéraient le sommeil comme un don divin, et croyaient que Hypnos pouvait aider les gens à dormir paisiblement.
Dans la culture populaire, le terme « hypnose » est dérivé du nom d’Hypnos. En effet, le sommeil était considéré comme un état hypnotique, ce qui a donné naissance au mot « hypnose », qui est utilisé pour décrire un état de conscience modifié dans lequel les gens sont plus réceptifs à des suggestions.
